Institut for Kemi og Biovidenskab

Bioresources and Process Engineering

The Section of Bioresources and Process Engineering focuses on fundamental and applied research in chemical, microbial, and environmental processes.

Research Fields

Our section works across a broad range of research areas such as biorefineries, membrane technologies, and resource utilization. More importantly, our research capitalizes on inter- and cross-disciplinary actions to develop sustainable and efficient solutions for society. With our work, we aim to help securing future food security through developing alternative proteins and valorizing industrial waste streams; improve sustainable production through biomanufacturing, zero-waste process development, and bio-upcycling; improve the state of the environment through water treatment, mineral recovery, greenhouse gas mitigation, and toxicology assessment.  Find out more about our broad research activities in the thematic sections below.

Technologies

We work with a range of different technologies spanning both process development and analytical techniques. Across the research fields, we commonly work with technologies such as fermentation, UV treatment, membrane separation, heterologous enzyme production, microbial mixed culture selection, and adaptive laboratory evolution. To support our work, we have broad analytical capabilities within biomolecular separation and characterization, advanced qualitative and quantitative protein investigation, screening of food ingredient functionality, bioactivity assays, mineral analysis, analysis of gasses and respiration processes, elemental analysis, and toxicological screenings to name some examples. Find out more about our broad technological portfolio in the thematic sections below.
